Shopping at SAMS

Ok, I was in total denial that shopping at SAMS was anything that could benefit me. First, I really love Kroger Clicklist and I wasn't prepared to take my children to the grocery store again. I have only had to do this once since starting on the SAMS journey, and I am avoiding it ever again. There are reasons that SAMS shopping makes sense for our family, and may not for yours, but here are some of the reasons I love shopping at SAMS.

Reasons I love to shop at SAMS:
  • you can buy anything in there- literally. Now, I don't need everything in bulk size, but I love the fact that you can buy anything in there. I could wander for days.
  • Saving time- since I have started shopping here, I don't have to spend time online making my list for Kroger, or picking it up. Since I am buying in bulk things last so much longer, and I don't need things every week.
  • Saving money- again, I buy everything in bulk so week to week I am buying different things and my grocery budget has been significantly lower than at Kroger
  • We eat three meals a day at home- and several snacks- for five people- four of which are boys- we need a lot of food!
  • We clean eat- SAMS is the perfect place to stock up on meat, veggies, and fruit.
What I buy at SAMS:
  •  fruit- every week- grapes, bananas, strawberries, blueberries- once a month (apples, oranges)
  • steam-able vegetable bags- these come 6 to a bag and will normally last a month. I buy broccoli, mixed veggies, green beans
  • Potatoes- sweet and regular- a whole bag will last us about 3 weeks
  • Rice
  • seasonings that we use a lot
  • Chicken
  • Turkey meat
  • Milk- only because the boys drink it and I just don't want to make two stops
  • eggs
  • Turkey bacon- their pack literally will last us about 3 months
  • boys snacks- chips for lunches, fruit snacks, animal crackers, granola bars, pop-tarts, cookie packs, goldfish, popcorn, yogurt tubes
  • bottle water
  • juice boxes
  • coffee
  • protein bars- I have to buy these every week, and they aren't a real great savings, but saves me from going to Walmart
  • bread- two loaves will last me two weeks (for now, boys only eat one slice of bread sandwiches)
  • frozen chicken nuggets for the boys
  • pull-ups
  • diapers
  • wipes
  • shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotions, etc.
Really EVERYTHING! At first, I was just buying some things at SAMS and making a separate trip to Kroger. Every week that I go, I find something that I can buy there and save a trip to Kroger. I love things lasting several weeks at a time (or longer), and my grocery budget staying where it should. We budget $250 per week for groceries for 5 people and I normally stay in that with a trip to SAMS, and whatever odds and ends may come up during the week. Start shopping at SAMS!

Advocare story

I know that there are so many products out there these days, and we have tried a few different ones. I wanted to share our AdvoCare story, and why we chose these products.

Last spring, a friend offered me some Spark. I was teaching full time, coaching basketball, and had two 1 year olds and a newly 4 year old. I was exhausted. All day. Everyday. I tried it, liked it, but just wasn't really ready to spend the money on something. She contacted me a few times of the year, and I always just pushed it off. Finally, around Christmas, we decided we had to do something to get our health and weight back under control. Being pregnant twice in two years and one of those with two babies is not good on the weight!

So anyway, on January 2nd we decided to Jump All-in and do the 24 day challenge. It is 10 days of a herbal cleanse, and then 14 days of vitamin packed nutrients. It comes with a meal plan, shopping list, schedule of when to take everything, and a lot of support. I was very uncomfortable for about the first 7 days as I tried to wean my body off sugar. After about a week, I felt great! If you are looking to trim down, this is by far the best way to get a jump start on that!

Some of our favorite AdvoCare products:
-Spark- this is a supplement that we use to enhance energy and mental focus. If you are a mom, it is amazing! A lot of people drink theirs (you just mix in water) in the morning, but I prefer about mid-day, because it really helps me have a productive afternoon.
-Meal Replacement Shake- these seriously are so yummy! We take a muscle gain supplement as well that doesn't taste so great, but these really are tasty. I use these on mornings when I need to hurry the kids out to school, or a lot on Sunday morning because we seem to be late a lot! I also mix a weekly fiber pack right in and you can't taste it.
-Catalyst- this supplement helps build lean muscle- I can already tell a difference in about 2 weeks of taking this regularly. We love it!
-Thermoplus- helps burn off extra fat, but maintain muscle- great with catalyst!
-Rehydrate- love chugging one of these after a run on the treadmill, I can recover much faster replacing those electrolytes with this instead of water

Some suggestions of things to take to get started:
-Spark!
-Catalyst, thermoplus, and slim (like spark but with added appetite control) would be a great bundle
-24 day challenge!

I can't even brag on these products enough, and how I (and hubs) feel after getting on product. It has made such a different in our daily lives as we try to be better and live healthier.

Added bonus to our success so far, clean eating and exercise. More on those tips to come in the future.

If you want to try any of these, I would love to help out!

Below is a picture my before and after on the 24 Day Challenge: (I have dropped from 192-175 since deciding to make a healthier lifestyle change!)

Homeschool Preschool

Anders, who is almost 5, will be going to Kindergarten in August. Him and I have had two full school years home together since he was born. One of those years he was 2, and this year he was 4. The other years I was working as a Kindergarten or 2nd grade teacher. This year, I knew we really had to step up what we were doing, or he would be way behind going into Kindergarten. He still isn't completely where I want him to be, but we have until August!

The year he was 2 and we were home together, we did very basic things. We watched educational YouTube videos, played with shaving cream, put his name in magnet letters on the fridge, learned our colors and basic shapes. I have two 2 year olds at home this year, and I don't even do all of that with them. They are learning those things through books we read, watching him, talking to them, and MDO. I have a feeling they will get by much easier. One of my younger ones is a sponge. He remembers everything I read to him, and he can mimic several books we read. My other two (Anders' included) need a lot of reinforcement. Which is ok!

So coming into our Preschool Homeschool year, Anders' did not know anything past basic shapes and colors. He didn't know the letters in his name, or how to write them. He could count to 10, but could not identify any of the numbers. Now I can't take full credit for how far he has come this year, because he has an amazing teacher at preschool two days a week that has done a great job catching him up.

If you are a stay at home mom, this is what we have used as a model this year to catch him up and get him ready. If you work outside the home, I imagine, your child is getting these things at preschool, and I wouldn't suggest much more at home. Burnout is a real thing.

Our morning schedule looks something like this:
6:30- he gets up and picks a show before his brothers get up so I can finish my Bible study, coffee, shower, etc.
7:00- breakfast for everyone
8:00- get dressed and head downstairs where our "school" supplies are
8:15-9:00- Homeschool time- sometimes it is MUCH shorter- or longer..like this morning when he had to write his name on his Valentines but wanted to tell me a story about each person in his class. I eventually had to implement a no talking policy so we could finish!

Language- we always start with a language activity. At first it was simply copying his name, and now it has evolved into missed first constant of words. We have used: markers, stamps, letter cards, large paper, crayons, colored paper, magnet letters, white boards, and regular writing paper. We used letter flash cards everyday until he learned those. I hold up the letter card and say "M, mmm, mouse" and he repeats. I also have a few Dr. Jean CD's that we listen to in the car. Name writing and letter practice were everyday until he mastered those about 5 months in.

Math- I keep it very simple. We count calendar days, we count orally, we skip count, we count objects, we pair objects to a number, we trace numbers, we write numbers, and we sing about counting. He can count to 100, count to 100 by 10s, and recognize numbers 0-10 mostly just from oral work. We are still working on writing numbers. He is a lefty, and writing things is not easy for him (or me!)

Bible- We use our Bible time to practice books of the Bible, memory work, or write notes or cards to those who may need them

Now, what to do if your preschooler doesn't want to do any work at home. Believe me, at first, it was maybe 5 minutes. But overtime, he started to enjoy some of the fun activities I would incorporate into his learning, and he didn't mind sitting to do it. At first, I would let him pick a game to play after he worked, and I would play that with him.

Another thing, I always try and do is stay on top of whatever they are doing at school. If I see work come home, I make sure we cover that to some degree. They are learning about a sight word every week at his preschool. I tape the ones for the month on his bathroom mirror and he says them when he brushes his teeth, and then I put them with his school work after the month, and we say them each everyday. He knows all but about 5 doing that. We are working on recognizing them in print not just on the card.

If you are struggling for ideas, pinterest, and teacher pay teacher are my go to's. I also love the big Kindergarten workbooks you can buy at Walmart that cover a lot of different subjects, and they can work right in those. No pages to print!

Main thing to remember, they will learn SO MUCH in Kindergarten. Really! I had students who couldn't write their name when they came in, and they were beginning to read as they left. Their little brains need time to develop. If your child is pushing back, they aren't ready. Once Anders' was ready, he took off. Same with most "milestone" things for your child, if you let them take the lead when they are ready, they will soar.

I am excited to see how Anders' does in Kindergarten, and I am excited to watch all three boys develop and grow over the years as learners of all things!!

(Picture below is our setup for learning)

NICU

I'll start this post with stating, I LOVED some of our nurses during our almost 3 week stay in the NICU with the twins. There are several things about the NICU I didn't love..

Let's start at the beginning..

On Wednesday October 29th 2014, the boys were a month from their due date. I however, was already having contractions and had been for a few days. My OB let me know it would be sooner rather than later. I was 35 weeks pregnant. Needed to get to 37, but just figured that wasn't happening. I took Anders (then 2) to the library for story time. He acted a fool and I ended up having to wrestle him back to the car. 35 weeks pregnant with twins. I got home, called the doctor. He told me to rest until evening and come in if the contractions didn't improve. At about 5:30 my mom came to take Anders to Trunk or Treat and Garrett and I went to the hospital. I was definitely in active labor. I had a c-section at about 8:00pm. (My whole break down a c-section for another blog). The twins were born at 7:59 (Garron- 5.11oz) and 8:01 (William- 6.4oz). Big babies! They both looked good, and I held them for a few minutes. Due to them being 35 weeks, they NICU team needed to take them up to the regular nursery for a few tests. They took me to recovery. The NICU doctor (with the worst bedside manner) came in about an hour later to let me know Garron needed to head upstairs to the NICU floor because he had fluid on his lungs. I kissed him, and sent him off. I didn't see him until the next morning. William stayed with me, and we went to sleep pretty soon after.

The next morning, we sent William to well nursery and headed up to see Garron. I couldn't walk really yet so Garrett wheeled me up. Garron was in a regular infant bed with oxygen, but his nurse (whom I loved) assured me he was doing great. He got his oxygen off a few hours later. I tried to nurse him, and fed him a few drops of colostrum through a syringe. I went back and forth from Garron to William a few times that day.

The next day, they came to get William for his circumcision. He couldn't hold up his body temperature, so up to the NICU he went. This was hard, but actually made life a little easier for them to be in one location. I sent Garrett off to work a football game, and I slowly (like 25 minutes) walked up to the NICU floor to feed the boys. I was pumping in the room, nursing what they would, and feeding with a bottle. When I got upstairs, the boys had been moved to a room with about 15 babies. It was insane!! There was beeping, crying, all kinds of chaos. I sat down to feed William and he turned blue. The nurse that night came over and readjusted his head and he was back to normal. I however, cried for about 5 straight hours. I tried to feed Garron next, he didn't want any part of eating. The nurse let me know that they would either have to eat formula from a bottle, or get a feeding tube. They were like 48 hours old, why couldn't I nurse them. Meanwhile, still crying.

I called the NICU the next morning at like 5:00am, and asked that the boys please be moved. I could not go back to that room. So the same lovely nurse from day one moved them to a room with only 5 babies. Hallelujah! They held steady for that day. Feeding, breathing, all was well. The next day they were put under the head lamp for jaundice, and we had to go home. They had been there for 5 days.

The next two weeks was back and forth everyday. They were really struggling remembering to breathe. They would have spells, turn blue, monitors beeping, nurses running, madness for two weeks. I was still nursing, taking milk, and calling around the clock. I was so thankful for nurses who answered all my questions, held my babies, gave them baths, let me nurse them, etc.

After 17 days, William had gone 5 days without a spell and he was able to come home. Before he could come home, we had to spend the night at the hospital. This drove me crazy. I have another baby at home, not my first go around, and I know how to take care of a baby. Anyway, during that night, a nurse insisted on Garron drinking from a bottle a certain amount gave him too much, he choked, couldn't breathe, etc. I let the doctor know the next morning how I felt about that. Finally, the next day Garron also got to come home.

Things I think the NICU could improve on:
- Unless your baby is extremely ill, there isn't room to stay for very long periods of time. I had one chair, crammed in a room and barely room to get around. Not ideal for visiting two babies everyday.
- The strict visitor policy. I understand that some babies are sick, but mine weren't and they had family that wanted to meet them. It would have helped for someone other than me to always been there trying to hold two babies
- No one really appreciated me trying to nurse. They dealt with, but they still thought the boys needed to be eating from a bottle. Had I brought them home full term at 6.4oz, no one would be constantly judging my nursing.

Things I loved about the NICU:
- They kept my tiny humans alive
- They had conversations with me that weren't about my babies- just normal real conversations
- They rocked them, held them, fed them, dressed them, and loved them. I'll be forever grateful for that.

If we ever have a 4th, I am holding that baby in as long as I possibly can!!

daily devotional

Normally, people will make it a goal to read their Bible or study something everyday. If you are like me, I will get into something and then about a month later I stop and its a few months before I start back. I was on this cycle most of my adult life until the last couple of years. You may be thinking, its easy for me because I stay at home. However, I have a 5:00am alarm so that I can make time for it before my boys are up. I have also done this, and worked full time. So its totally doable for everyone!

So here are my tips for how to make it work for you:
For the WORKING mom:
-Get up 10 minutes earlier than you need to. It may take you a few days practice, but once you get in the habit you can do it. My trick- as soon as I hear my alarm, I turn my light on so that I don't keep laying in bed in a dark room and go back to sleep.
-Find something quick- I love Jesus Calling. This year I am doing Beth Moore's daily devotional. Both are quick one page reads. If you give yourself the full 10 minutes, you can read the whole chapter that they are pulling the verse from
-Listen to 97.1 on the way to work. It may not be Bible study, but it is good music!
-Do your Bible study at night. This would be best if you are attempting a longer study. When I worked and did long studies, I would do my quick study in the mornings, and then work on my longer study at night or on the weekend.

For the STAY AT HOME MOM:
-Get up at least 30 minutes before your kids do. I choose 2 hours so that I have plenty of time for exercise, coffee, and Bible Study
-Pick a variety of studies. Currently I am reading Beth Moore's daily devotional, The Praying Wife, Love Unending, and Beth Moore's Entrusted series. I enjoy this method because I don't get burnt out with one method.
-Pinterest has a scripture writing challenge for each month of the year. They take about 10 minutes. Love these, and you can do these anytime during the day. They don't require as much focus as reading something.
-Find a comfortable spot somewhere in your house that while you are up early you can sit comfortably, sip your coffee, and do your study ( I didn't have time for coffee sipping when I worked, but you can do this if you are up with enough time)

I hope these help you find some time or motivation to get in the Word everyday. Even if I only spend 5 minutes, I feel better for the day.

Back at it!

It has been so long since I wrote a blog! So long in fact, the last one on here is from 2011 when I was pregnant with Anders. Whew! If you need a blast from the past, just read back on the blog! I haven't the slightest clue about how to adjust any of the layout, pictures, sidebar information, or anything really. I will work on that. Glad to be back on the blog, and I hope you enjoy following along. You never know what direction the blog will take.

As the boys have gotten a little older, I have found a little bit more time in my day for me things. Mamas, hold tough- a time will come when you can sit on your couch, drink a Spark (more info on that) and blog away! I am excited to share with you all what is going on around our house. First, now there are 5 of us! We live a crazy busy little boy filled life. We love playtime, TV, God, family, football, clean eating, exercise, and recently Advocare.

I hope that this blog can relate to other mamas out there. I hope to share stories of all types- food recipes, birth stories, twin life, toddler life, exercise, teaching, stay at home mom things, faith, and just anything that pops in my head.

My first "back in the saddle" blog, is a recipe. On January 2nd, Garrett and I decided that our 30s weren't going to take control of us, but we were going to rock being 30. We signed up for the 24 day Advocare Challenge, and it quite literally changed our life. It has changed our eating, sleeping, exercising, parenting, marriage, and really every aspect of our life. (Reach out if you are interested!) With the challenge, comes clean eating. The eating was my biggest hold up for getting healthy. I just wasn't prepared for staying in my kitchen for hours a day preparing food. It has been the opposite of that! We shop at Sam's, cook in bulk, store food for the week, and just grab our meals quickly. I love it!

Garrett's favorite thing that we eat now we call "burrito in a bowl" I buy ground turkey meat (bought from Sam's in bulk), brown it, add pepper onion blend from Kroger, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. It takes about 10 minutes. It is goal approved, and if you are lucky your children will eat it. I am not that lucky yet. I make enough to eat that night and save for two more meals.

"burrito in a bowl"
Ingredients
-turkey ground meat
-3 pepper and onion blend (frozen)
-chili powder
-onion powder
-garlic powder

Directions
-brown meat
-mix in pepper blend
-sprinkle with spices
-cook until the blend is thawed

EAT and ENJOY (all while eating what will keep you on track!)

My reward.

I had a sub (not for me..finally, for a RA teacher) the other day tell me that there was a special place in Heaven for me. I quickly responded, "trust me, I am anxiously awaiting my reward". I often think, as rough as things get on Earth, its just for a brief time. My job may not be the easiest everyday, my kids may not be well behaved at all, but for some of them I am the only chance at hope they get. As I struggle through the day with them, or as rough times come and go in my daily life- I find such comfort in the fact that this is not it for me. There is so much more to come, and I am hanging on doing what I am called to with the time God gives me so that I can meet Him in my reward one day!

dehydration.

Let me preface this post with the statement that I am a sickly person. I tend to miss several school days in the winter due to the flu, strep, etc. So saying that my hubby and I knew that this pregnancy would not be easy. Around week 5 I started to have just some queasiness in the morning. Around week 7 it turned into queasiness all day long. At this point it wasn't majorly affecting my diet, but it was meaning that I ate less than I normally would. Around week 8 into 9 I started throwing up every morning and eating WAY less. Everyone just kept saying it was normal so on I went. This stayed that way until week 12 when I caught a cold. The cold felt more like the flu and kept me on the couch for a weekend. Didn't really eat Monday. Tuesday threw-up three times before I left for work. At this point, I think I have a stomach virus. Had a total breakdown Tuesday night because G left to work, and my mother-in-law had to come get me. Wednesday I laid on the couch all day and wallowed in my own misery. Thought I was better after my normal morning sick, but once I tried to eat lunch my stomach proved me wrong. At this point, it was difficult to even sit up. We called the on call doctor and he prescribed some phnigren (who really knows how to spell that) I took it expecting to sleep for hours, and I was up most of the night. Thursday I woke up in tears and G decided we were heading to the doctor. My mom came and got me, the doctor looked at me, and told me to go to the hospital. Lovely. So I came home to take a bath since we were going on like four days without one (I know, gross.) Got checked into the hospital, got my IV going after three separate attempts. They said that when you are dehydrated your veins just curl up. I started to feel immediately better with the IV. They only let me eat crackers and dry cereal so I had that for dinner, breakfast, and the next day for lunch. They weighed me and I was down about 20lbs from when I got pregnant. Down about 12 since I had been at the doctor two weeks earlier. G spent the night with me in the hospital, and it was the longest night of my life. The IV machine went off about 5 different times, G's alarm went off, my OB was doing his rounds at 4:30am...it was just unpleasant. Friday afternoon they let me go home, but I was not feeling well at all. Came home Friday and took my Zophran and my phnigren. I was asleep by 8:30 and slept until 11:30 Saturday. Woke up Saturday still in a daze, but G's mom was texting me saying she was on the way to get me. I spent all day Saturday (my 25th birthday- yay) on the couch being forced to eat and drink. By Saturday night I felt much better. Still very weak. Church on Sunday meant I needed 5 hours to recover on the couch. Today I went to work for a half day, and I am on the couch for a nap. I have a check-up at the doctor this afternoon, and hopefully everything will be fine!

Overwhelmed.

First off, headed to my first appointment at the OB today and pretty excited about that. I'll post if there is any news. I doubt there will be. Took my last shot last night- G and I did a little dance we were so excited! My butt was excited too after like 12 weeks of a shot everyday.

Second, I have a friend going in for her egg retrieval tomorrow. Just praying everything goes smoothly for her.

Third, one of my dearest friend's grandfather had a stroke yesterday and we are worried about him making a full recovery.

Fourth, a girl I went to high school with, decided to take the path of her children's lives into her own hands and end it before their time. I don't know all the details or do I really know her very well. I know how she was in elementary, but that really is not good enough to base any kind of judgment on how she is now. I know from news coverage that she hid her pregnancy from everyone, she had her twin babies home Monday night, and smothered them with her bare hands before anyone heard them. She left Tuesday for work and her dad found a baby. They police discovered another baby. Mentally stable or mentally unstable there is really no excuse for ending a life, much less one that doesn't have a fighting chance. It is heartbreaking to think about all the people that so just want to have a baby and cant. And then someone is blessed (in their eyes or not) with two babies and handles it so carelessly. I know that her family will need lots of prayers during this time, as well as her. I heard on the news that she was very upset during the investigation. Rightly so. Anyone would have taken those babies for her. She will need your prayers as she looks at a long life ahead behind bars.

Graduated from NFC!!

As of today, I am done at NFC! Next week I get to go to OB! I have LOVED the people at NFC, but I am happy to start on a somewhat normal pregnancy routine. The one thing I am definitely going to miss is the attention. I have talked to the people at NFC every other day it feels like since April. There is no telling how many trips we have made out there. It will feel weird going anywhere else!

Today, at our last appointment, we got to see our little baby! Just one little baby, twin B didn't develop and they said my body just absorbed it back in. I wonder how many people have that happen, but never get an ultrasound that early so they don't know. I am 9 weeks today, and our little baby had a good strong heartbeat! It measured 8cm at my 7 week ultrasound and 24cm today! Dr. said we are probably going to have a big baby! Our baby had little nub arms today and was moving them all around on the ultrasound. I told G that all that arm moving is probably what is making me feel sickly. The good news is, I think I am entering a better time with the nausea. I have had it since about week 4, and some of the weeks have been much worse. I still have it, but I am able to eat and function a little better than I was a few weeks ago! Thank God for that, it was no fun! I am excited for our little baby to just keep on growing!

Back to School

Well, it has been awhile since I posted because its back to school time. It never ceases to amaze me how helpless Kindergarteners are at the beginning of the year. I really wonder if some of them have ever been talked to, or ever been made to do anything. Whew! They are draining me! I have to spend my nights laying on the couch just to gather up the energy to want to go back the next day. I am hoping its just the beginning of the year and it will get better. On top of the beginning of the school year- being pregnant is almost killing me! I seriously don't know how people do it!! I know it will get better so I am anxiously waiting.

We went for our first ultrasound yesterday and it is TWINS! I am excited! We got pictures of both little babies. Twin A is growing perfectly! We heard its heartbeat and it is good and strong. Twin B is lagging behind. It measured a week behind the other baby. It had a heartbeat so I hope it can grow and catch up to Twin A. We go back in two weeks to check on the babies!

There's a baby on the way..!

Well, we are pregnant! I haven't announced it to many people because I am just now about 5 weeks, but I know there are some people following who were anxious to know the results. I got the call on my voice mail Friday afternoon. I was in an in-service all day trying to pay attention but just really didn't care! My pregnancy hormone level was 137 on Friday, which my nurse said was high. I went back Monday and today for more blood work. Monday it has rose to 731 and today 2,017! So, so far so good! As I have been going for all this blood work, I have also started back to school. Whew! Luckily, my principal is very understanding and I have only been testing so I can schedule them to come in after my doctor's appointment. I go back on August 23rd to have my first ultrasound, and see how my baby or babies are doing!!

Sleep!

Sleep, its all I do with my life. Since I have had to quit going to the gym that cut out what time I have to get up in the morning. Which meant I just started sleeping until I wanted too. Not a really good habit since school starts Wednesday. Also, since I can't really do anything anyway, I lay on the couch a lot. Got in the habit of taking a 2-3 hour nap a day. Also, not a really good habit for going back to school. But, I swear I am so dang tired. Pretty sure my shot that I take could keep me in bed forever! It makes me feel like I have never slept before. Blah! So who knows how on Wednesday I am going to get up at 5:45 and work a full day. I may die.

Bedrest

So I had to be on bed-rest yesterday after my transfer and today. I have to be laying down the whole time except to sit up and eat. So, as you can imagine, meals are my favorite time of the day! This morning I watched some TV, cut out some laminated stuff for school, and watched some TV. G made me a waffle (well the frozen kind you put in the toaster- but still yummy) for breakfast, a pb&j with Cheetos for lunch, and he is grilling burgers for dinner! I basically can't wait! We watched Varsity Blues earlier because clearly that movie can put anyone in a good mood, and I'm still deciding what to watch later. I accidentally took a 3 hour nap, which isn't good because I could have some difficulty sleeping tonight. But the progesterone keeps me kinda tired so maybe I will be fine. As I type G is cleaning the house! He is so great! Since I started FSH they said no heavy lifting which included the vacuum..so the house is a little dirty! I am glad that bed-rest is over tomorrow, and I have a doctors appointment so I get to leave the house! My progesterone shot was hurting so bad I wasn't able to sleep. The nurse said it could be because I was giving it myself. G's mom gave it last night (because he was at his football meeting- story of my life until December) and it doesn't really hurt at all today. Glad that problem was solved. I have to be back at work next Wednesday..ugh. But glad that it will keep my mind off the waiting a little bit.

Transfer Day!

Not really sure if I just posted an emtpy blog...my comp freaked out! Anyway, we had the transfer at about 10 this morning. We got there at 9, got in our scrubs and gown, took my Valium and just waited. The valium was a fun experience! I was totally in my happy place. The embryologist came in and showed us the embryo they planned to transfer. He said they recommended 1 but would 2 if that is what I wanted. I wanted two. Its just difficult to go through all this and think that you only have one chance. I feel better with two chances. The process didn't take but about 15 minutes, and really no pain. I am a little crampy now, but I figure that is expected. I am on bedrest today and tomorrow so just laying on the couch for me! I am just thinking good thoughts and hoping these babies like me, and latch on for 9 months! They were able to freeze 3 embryos today and would check in the morning to see if they could freeze anymore. I am happy with three! That gives us a good number if we want to do it again. Here are some pictures of our embryos and me and G in our surgery gear!

Day 2 embryos

We are on track for a day 5 transfer on Monday at 9am! It was supposed to be at 1130, but they just called and asked if we could be there at 9 instead. My voice mail today said that we had 3 grade A embryos and 1 grade B. I'm not sure if they continue to grow or what, but I am happy with that number at this point. Hopefully some of the others will catch up by Monday. I am used to hearing from them everyday, but I have to wait until Monday to see how they are doing so I'll just keep praying they grow like they are supposed to!

I started my progesterone shot on Wednesday. OUCH! It goes in the hip/butt. Doesn't really hurt when it first goes in, but give it about 30 minutes and my butt is on fire. It feels like a charlie horse that never goes away.

Yay for my embryos!

Just called my voice mail box to check on my embryos today. They got 16 eggs yesterday in retrieval. They did ICSI (due to G's low sperm count, they have to actually put the sperm in the egg instead of letting it go through itself in the dish) on 14 eggs, and 12 fertilized! I hope that they continue to grow into healthy little embryos before Monday when they go back in to make their home for 9 months!

Retrieval

Had my retrieval at 1015 this morning. Its 500 in the afternoon, and I finally might be awake. I came home and ate some lunch because I had to take an antibiotic that you cant take on an empty stomach. After that, I have been snoozing big time. They said there might be some stomach cramping like period cramps. My stomach really hasn't hurt that bad. It has hurt for the last week from the eggs so that's about what it feels like still. It hurts a little worse when I get up and walk around. I told G that the worse pain I am having is from the IV in my hand. My hand is so sore, but she had a hard time getting a vein she could put it in. As for the retrieval, we went in at 915. Got into a hospital gown that completely didn't fit, and one of those little hats to cover my hair. My room was freezing so my fingernails were purple. They told me to bring socks, so I was glad I did that. Next, they came in and put in my IV of fluids. I laid in there for awhile, they made me pee twice. About an hour later two ladies came in and gave me some meds that "would make me not care". Effective. I remember then rolling me down to retrieval and putting me on the OR bed...then gone. I woke back up in the room. G says I was talking crazy, but I don't remember any of that. Laid there for about 45 minutes and then had to get up and go to the bathroom. Also, an interesting experience. Got my IV out, got my clothes on, and they wheeled me down to the car. I was good and awake by that point. We stopped at subway to get me some lunch and at the pharmacy to get Valium filled for transfer day on Monday. They got 16 eggs out today. I feel really good about that. They say that about half of those are good, and about half of that will fertilize at the best state. So keeping my fingers crossed for my little embryos as they grow over the next few days! Here are some pictures from today.

Getting Close!

We are finally getting close to retrieval and transfer day! Yesterday was a little crazy. I had an in-service at 830 in Coopertown, had a doctors appointment in Nashville at 1100, back to Coopertown to finish up my in-service, to school to get my class roll, home for like 10 minutes, girls prayer group, shot at 1115, bed at 100am. Whew! Normally G goes to my appointments with me, but since I was coming from my in-service I just went by myself yesterday. I had my usual blood work, and then an ultrasound just to check on my eggs. My voice mail box last night let me know that I was done with my FSH! I was very excited because my stomach was really starting to hurt and bruise! She also let me know that I would take my trigger shot at 1115 last night to get ready for my retrieval on Wednesday at 1015. Went back today just to do some blood work and then talk with an IVF nurse about what to expect tomorrow. My retrieval is at 1015. Have to be there at 915. No food or drink after midnight tonight. I figure I will be pretty out of it most of the day tomorrow. I don't really do well with any kind of procedure. Tomorrow, I will also start my progesterone shots. They are a fairly large needle that goes in the butt. Everything I have heard about them- no fun! G will have to give those, so I hope it goes smoothly! I will also start another steroid tomorrow and an antibiotic. The antibiotic will most likely make me sick, so I am prepared for that. After tomorrow I will call my voice mail box and check on the quality of my embryos everyday. The plan is to do the transfer on Monday the 25th. They really only wont to put 1 in due to my age, but I'm fighting for 2 :)

Last night I was so lucky to get to go to a prayer group with some awesome girls. A friend of mine went through IVF almost exactly a year ago. I think her transfer was the 27th! Anyway, she had a prayer time over her procedure last year, and she wanted to do the same for me. It was amazing the wonderful women of God that don't even know me, but do know how powerful prayer is and wanted to be there to pray for me. My mom and mom-in-law went with me. It was awesome to be surrounded by all that prayer, and it gave me some hope that things are going to work out for us! She has the cutest baby to show from her IVF :)
