daily devotional

Normally, people will make it a goal to read their Bible or study something everyday. If you are like me, I will get into something and then about a month later I stop and its a few months before I start back. I was on this cycle most of my adult life until the last couple of years. You may be thinking, its easy for me because I stay at home. However, I have a 5:00am alarm so that I can make time for it before my boys are up. I have also done this, and worked full time. So its totally doable for everyone!

So here are my tips for how to make it work for you:
For the WORKING mom:
-Get up 10 minutes earlier than you need to. It may take you a few days practice, but once you get in the habit you can do it. My trick- as soon as I hear my alarm, I turn my light on so that I don't keep laying in bed in a dark room and go back to sleep.
-Find something quick- I love Jesus Calling. This year I am doing Beth Moore's daily devotional. Both are quick one page reads. If you give yourself the full 10 minutes, you can read the whole chapter that they are pulling the verse from
-Listen to 97.1 on the way to work. It may not be Bible study, but it is good music!
-Do your Bible study at night. This would be best if you are attempting a longer study. When I worked and did long studies, I would do my quick study in the mornings, and then work on my longer study at night or on the weekend.

For the STAY AT HOME MOM:
-Get up at least 30 minutes before your kids do. I choose 2 hours so that I have plenty of time for exercise, coffee, and Bible Study
-Pick a variety of studies. Currently I am reading Beth Moore's daily devotional, The Praying Wife, Love Unending, and Beth Moore's Entrusted series. I enjoy this method because I don't get burnt out with one method.
-Pinterest has a scripture writing challenge for each month of the year. They take about 10 minutes. Love these, and you can do these anytime during the day. They don't require as much focus as reading something.
-Find a comfortable spot somewhere in your house that while you are up early you can sit comfortably, sip your coffee, and do your study ( I didn't have time for coffee sipping when I worked, but you can do this if you are up with enough time)

I hope these help you find some time or motivation to get in the Word everyday. Even if I only spend 5 minutes, I feel better for the day.

Back at it!

It has been so long since I wrote a blog! So long in fact, the last one on here is from 2011 when I was pregnant with Anders. Whew! If you need a blast from the past, just read back on the blog! I haven't the slightest clue about how to adjust any of the layout, pictures, sidebar information, or anything really. I will work on that. Glad to be back on the blog, and I hope you enjoy following along. You never know what direction the blog will take.

As the boys have gotten a little older, I have found a little bit more time in my day for me things. Mamas, hold tough- a time will come when you can sit on your couch, drink a Spark (more info on that) and blog away! I am excited to share with you all what is going on around our house. First, now there are 5 of us! We live a crazy busy little boy filled life. We love playtime, TV, God, family, football, clean eating, exercise, and recently Advocare.

I hope that this blog can relate to other mamas out there. I hope to share stories of all types- food recipes, birth stories, twin life, toddler life, exercise, teaching, stay at home mom things, faith, and just anything that pops in my head.

My first "back in the saddle" blog, is a recipe. On January 2nd, Garrett and I decided that our 30s weren't going to take control of us, but we were going to rock being 30. We signed up for the 24 day Advocare Challenge, and it quite literally changed our life. It has changed our eating, sleeping, exercising, parenting, marriage, and really every aspect of our life. (Reach out if you are interested!) With the challenge, comes clean eating. The eating was my biggest hold up for getting healthy. I just wasn't prepared for staying in my kitchen for hours a day preparing food. It has been the opposite of that! We shop at Sam's, cook in bulk, store food for the week, and just grab our meals quickly. I love it!

Garrett's favorite thing that we eat now we call "burrito in a bowl" I buy ground turkey meat (bought from Sam's in bulk), brown it, add pepper onion blend from Kroger, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. It takes about 10 minutes. It is goal approved, and if you are lucky your children will eat it. I am not that lucky yet. I make enough to eat that night and save for two more meals.

"burrito in a bowl"
Ingredients
-turkey ground meat
-3 pepper and onion blend (frozen)
-chili powder
-onion powder
-garlic powder

Directions
-brown meat
-mix in pepper blend
-sprinkle with spices
-cook until the blend is thawed

EAT and ENJOY (all while eating what will keep you on track!)
